Atwood Family

Among the earliest to engage in the manufacture of shoes, were Moses and James Atwood.  During the war of 1812, the first named sent a wagon load of shoes to Philadelphia, on which he realized a handsome profit. These must have been about the first shoes sent in that direction. [footnote: Mr. Atwood subsequently removed to Philadelphia, and founded the first wholesale shoe house in that city.](90)

A James Atwood “brother to Moses” dies in Haverhill in 1807 at 53 years so born 1754

Simeon Sr. who married Hannah is listed as Shipwright in deeds for Bradford around 1828.

Moses Atwood is listed as an inn holder in the Village in 1848. Moses Atwood is listed as a Coroner in 1847.

Moses marries  Ruth Ann Moody Bradley.  Ruth Ann is the sister of Mary Ann Bradley that marries Daniel P. Mcquesten. DPM also married Dolly Ingersoll. So that makes her the aunt of John J. McQuesten and Abigail P. McQuesten.   Perhaps that is why Moses is an Innkeeper in 1846.  John Johnson (still owner) seems to take out a series of mortgages at this time before he sells it to John J. McQuesten (and Daniel H. Hall) in 1849.
Daniel Atwood (another brother of Moses) seems to be involved in the mortgage deals with the Tavern in 1847.

Simeon Atwood and Moses Atwood owned 1/2 dwelling house on what we think was lot 8 in plat 430 on Colby’s lane. In 1808 Moses Atwood is called a Haverhill merchant.
