Kenison Family

The Kinison, Kenison, Kineston, Kenison, Kenistion, Kennison Family that lived in Rocks Village came from Deerfield NH via Amesbury Ma.

It seems that Timothy Kiniston, a physician and combmaker, came to Haverhill in 1824 when he purchased The Countess House from Elias Weld in 1824 (235/137).  He owned it until his death in 1876 and presumably acted as the village physician during that time. He also purchased other land in Amesbury, with Stephen Morse in the next few years.   A 50 acre parcel from Edward Moody (242/261) in 1826, Nathaniel Davis (245/300) in 1827 called the Pilsbury Place, and he then ended up buying one undivided half of 40 acres of land from Stephen Morse and Abigail B. Morse (249/274) in 1828 (land they got from Edward Moody and Nathaniel Davis). He and his wife Abby purchased land in Newbury from Edward Longfellow (251/39) in 1829 near the Byfield factory. Later in 1832, he purchased land from Bailey Bartlett (263/105) – Meadow land in Haverhill and along with Elisha Tucker from Hannah Davis (267/94).

Timothy purchased and owned several pieces of land in Rocks Village including on Wharf Lane, River Road, and East Main.

Timothy and Abby’s daughter Elizabeth married John Poyen, the son of Joseph de Poyen cousin of the count who married Mary Ingalls. Their son Albert married Hannah W, Flanders and lived on East Main Street.  Their son John W. L. never married and seems to have run into money troubles.  He may have also ran a billiard room in the Johnson Tavern?? Their daughter

Through his probate, his children sold their shares to their brother Albert.  After Albert’s death in 1911, his widow, Hannah W., sold the house to Jennie M. Follette in 1915.

Albert E. Kenison (1843 – 1911 is part of Protector #3 company in 1864. He is listed as a farmer in the 1880 and 1900 census. He was born while his dad Timothy owned it, he inherited/bought it from his siblings, and died in 1911 still owning it. He is listed as a cordswainer in 1865 at age 23.
