Quested Family

The Quested family came from England and lived in West Newbury. It seems that the first family members to own in Rocks Village and East end of East Broadway was James K. Quested when he purchased land from the George family on the corner of 12 rod way and East Broadway (the current 889) in 1858. James purchased land that has become 803 East Broadway from the George family (766/119) for $375.00.
William purchased land from James Peaslee closer to Haverhilltown in 1862.

The Questeds married several of the already established Rocks Village families
Maria Quested married George S. Cooper and lived at 14 Wharf lane in 1850.
Mary (Maria) Sophia Ordway (1853 – 1922) marries Thomas E. Quested (1851 -xx) in 1874
Olive E. marries Samuel Foot Chase in 1872
James K. Quested married into the George and Ladd families when he married Abbie Bodwell Goss in 1866 She was the grand daughter of Moses D. George and Abigail Bodwell Ladd George. Then when Abbie died in childbirth, he marries Mary Orne in 1874.

23 East main street stayed in the Jaques family until 1891 when Moses’ widow Eliza sold to Thomas Quested.

In 1938 Wilbert L. Quested (Gertrude Quested) and Adelaide N. (Quested) Sears (William H. Sears) sold 52 Old Amesbury Line Road to George W. H. Thompson (3147/37). Adeline (Odeline) and Wilbert are divorced at this point and she remarried William H. Sears.

Later in the 1950s Wilbert Leonard Quested (great grandson of J. L. Orne) and his wife Gertrude and other family members sold off 325 Amesbury Line Road.

        3. James Wilbert (1879-1922) marries Odelaide N. Johnson (1887-x) in 1904. Was drafted in 1917. James and Odelaide divorce btw 1910 and 1920. She marries William H. Sears. Shows up as Adeline N. in deeds.
          1. Wilbert Leonard (1905 – 1965) marries Gertrude Marion Nutter (1906-1990) in 1931. He was a shoe worker and business agent United Shoe Workers of America AfL-CIO, Locals 12 A and 113. Became a Mason in 1927. She was office clerk/insurance secretary William E. Nutter Insurance Agency.

Clark listed as Annie Ramsey’s sister living with her in 1940 on East Broadway between Nellie Kimball and with William Duffy (son in law of Annie and nephew in law of Jennie) at 787 East Broadway. Also deed 2955/592 lists Annie as her sister. She buys land for $1.00 from Thomas E. Quested (2677/479) and then sells this to Ida Ramsey (her niece through Annie and Bryon). 1933 Jennie is formerly of Brooklyn, NY. May have married Alexander Henry Clark.
