Events for 2025
Trails and Sails September 14th, 21st, and 28th from 1 – 5pm

Enjoy a picnic lunch overlooking the Merrimack River, then wander through the Hand Tub House and the Toll House Museum at your own pace. Try to imagine what life was like here two hundred years ago. The Hand Tub House has been a central figure of the Rocks Village district since it was constructed in 1829. It was an early firehouse, and originally housed a manually operated firefighting pump. This public building has been used throughout its existence as a firehouse, community center, meeting space, and as part of a museum.

The Toll House Museum

In June 2018, with the help from a Essex National Heritage Grant, the Toll House Museum opened its doors. Seven Exhibition boards have been created telling the stories of The Makers of Rocks Village, The Women of Rocks Village, Slaves and Abolitionists near Rocks Village, Getting Around, Shoe Making in Rocks Village, Rocks Village Toll House, Historical Houses Maps, and Physicians of Rocks Village. Additionally, several artifacts from the village are available to view.
