Notable Woodmans in relation to Rocks Village:

Abigail Woodman, daughter of John Anna (Adams) Woodman marries Anthony Chase of Haverhill.  Anthony has a mill near millvale.

Betsey who married Joseph Moody, son of Joseph and brother of Cutting who owned on River Road.  Joseph and Betsey sell land to David Elliot on Colby’s Lane in 1815. Joseph and Betsey sell land they got from Mark Woodman to Enoch Foot (276/10) in 1824.

Mark who inherited land through his Father Edward IV around Corliss Hill Road and Amesbury Line Road.  See deeds below. Mark married Sarah Chase (d. David Jr. and Sarah (Johnson) Chase) and Sarah Morse (daughter of Caleb Morss and Sarah Ordway). Sarah Chase is Simeon Chase Sr.’s sister.

Archelaus WOODMAN (9 JUN 1672 – 17 March 1766) married Hannah Swett, sister of John Swett Sr. who operated the ferry at the Rocks starting in 1711.

        Wife Edna gets all provision in house and $66.00 per year as long as she lives from the two sons.

Fourteen acres of Woodland in Haverhill beginning at the northerly corner of Plaistow road then 68R13L by Anna Woodman to stake and stone then by Josiah Chase 35R1L then to corner, then by Chase land 14R to road, 36R by road containing 15 acres. of this 4 acres and 20R were set off for dower to Sarah.  The remaining 11 acres gets sold to Stephen Morse 233/194 Apr 25, 1823. This 11 acres is bounded by Josiah Chase, heirs of Moses Chase, Stephen Chase and road.

1824, Mar: Joseph and Betsy Moody to Enoch Foot (276/10). A certain piece of land 1 undivided 6th part of 7 acres. Being part of land of widow of Mark Woodman late of West Newbury. (also land in west newbury)

Why does Betsy gets 1/6 of undivided 7 acres in Haverhill.  Only 4 acres were given to Sarah (Chase) Woodman as dower. Mark does not get any land in Haverhill from his father Edward

1818: John Pulsifer, Anna D Pulsifer (niece of Mark, d. of Abel and Mary Morss Woodman), and Hannah (Dustin) Woodman (Anna’s mother?) to Enoch Foot (217/266) 3 acres 49 road. Road to Plaistow 20 R on road and the 6R, 28R12L by land of Ebenzer Pulsifer, 12R5L by Thomas Chase, 32R then 1R by Mark Woodman and another piece of land this day deeded to John Sawyer.  This land came through Abel (he got 12 acres from his dad Edward/Ednar)
